FORGOTTEN BITS

At and around the Kurino station in Kagoshima. I can't remember why I had forgotten to upload these before with the rest of the Kyushu photos, but here they are.

Waiting to drop off a roll at the lab tomorrow. Last week had been a fun one with friends dropping in from HK and Tokyo. HC and I played tour guide and I got the chance to pick up my Minolta again while doing a bit of exploring around the island.

Trying not to let the blog lay fallow for so long. I had a grand total of 1 post in March and this is already April! Will post something again soon, meanwhile hope everyone gets a good recharge before the new week begins.

Oh and just in case you might be interested, a great book that I've been eating up in chunks. It makes me feel less bad about wanting to potter around at home all the time ;)

HAYATO NO KAZE

The Hayato no Kaze.

Highly recommended for all like-minded train dorks who appreciate old diesel trains, woody interiors, and railway switchbacks. For everyone else, there's the scenic sea-view, active volcanoes (Sakura-jima), and old wooden stations more than a hundred years old.

Oh and the locals who dish out little paper cups of comforting green tea and waving from their front-porches along the line were very lovely too ;)

KIRISHIMA ART NO MORI

On the second day, we took a train to Kirishima. There was a museum we had wanted to see.

Several of the exhibits were pretty interesting actually but I was completely distracted by the fall colours.

And so I ended up with more tree photos than exhibits to show you.

Another wonderful thing about museums, interesting architectural design.

A little break before heading out to catch the bus.

Yoshitomo Nara!

Yoshitomo Nara... ...again!

I suspect I might have enjoyed the cafe more than the exhibits.

The view from the little bus stand where we were waiting for the last bus back to the train station for the day. Autumn is such a beautiful time of the year.

WE'RE BACK!

Yes we're back from Kyushu and there's lots to share! This has been a very classica trip, I took barely 2 rolls with my Minolta. Somehow being in Japan always makes me want to pull out my classica.

Above are photos shot on our first full day in Kyushu. We landed in Hakata in the evening, stayed a night and hopped on the newest shinkansen line in Japan the next day all the way down to Kagoshima. I think I have to mention here that there wasn't exactly any sights we wanted to see there actually. I saw pictures of interesting trains (love!) in the guidebook and HC saw kurobuta (the place is famous for them), and somehow suddenly Kagoshima was on our itinerary.

Also check out the cutest train ever, the Ibusuki no Tamatebako. I was one happy girl in it all the way down to Ibusuki :)
