THE ROAD TO MILFORD

An early good-morning in Te Anau. The destination was Milford Sound that day, the only fiord in NZ accessible by road.

Short stopover for some takeaway subway. Rule number one of a road trip (to us at least) - never be without food :) We were ready to go.

Milford guidebook: 'estimated 2 hours 20 minutes for 119km'. We started driving and knew why. This was the day I learnt a new term called 'the hairpin turn'.

One of the many stop-and-drops along the way. This one was at Mirror Lake. I should be looking at the waters but I kept staring at the trees.

HC and his quirk for creeks. And of course the constant look-out for signs of fish. Beautiful clear spring water, only 4 degrees C they say. No, I didn't try.

We found piles of rock mysteriously stacked by the roadside, and of course HC being HC, found it irresistible to add to them. I hope we didn't mess up some tribal offering or trekkers' code.

The interesting Homer Tunnel. If it's green light on your side it's better to go go go, because the next time you see green will be 15 minutes on.

"Fangorn? What madness drove them in there?" sorry I'll stop.

    1. Thank you! I'm glad! I'm quite bad at putting pictures together, especially when I'm shooting with 2 cameras and the different colours and contrasts sometimes drive me totally crazy :)

    1. Your US photos are beautiful! Can I be greedy and hope for more? I took this funny online quiz before to find out what you were in your previous life, and it turned out that I was a tree, so I guess I'm a tree person ;)
